Digit2Me Training Week in Girona, Spain: 4 Days of Digital Mentoring, Inclusion & Empowerment

Girona, Spain, recently became the hub of inclusive innovation and digital empowerment as professionals from across Europe gathered for the Digit2Me transnational training course. The program focused on strengthening digital mentoring skills for young people with disabilities in rural areas, promoting inclusion, empowerment, and accessible digital tools.

What We Experienced

Over four intensive and inspiring days, participants engaged in a variety of interactive sessions, group activities, and reflective exercises aimed at deepening their mentoring practices and strengthening cross-border collaboration.

Day 1: Building Foundations

We began with team-building exercises and co-created group agreements to set the tone for a safe and inclusive learning environment. Participants reflected on their own mentoring journeys and shared personal experiences to foster trust and connection.

Day 2: Understanding Our Audience

The second day centered around core mentoring competencies and the development of personas – fictional yet research-based profiles of the young people we aim to support. This exercise helped us empathize more deeply with their challenges and tailor our approaches accordingly.

Day 3: Empowerment in Practice

Day 3 brought empowerment to the forefront through hands-on activities like The Elixir of Independence, which encouraged creative thinking about autonomy and support. We also used the Lean Coffee Method to collectively discuss and tackle real-world challenges in digital mentoring.

Day 4: Safety and Sustainability

On the final day, we addressed cybersecurity and phishing awareness, ensuring that mentors are equipped with the knowledge to guide safe and secure online interactions. The training concluded with a PATH method session, allowing participants to reflect on their learning and chart paths for future growth.

Impact and Gratitude

Throughout the week, we shared ideas, co-created practical toolkits, and strengthened our collective commitment to inclusive youth work. The Digit2Me training was not just a learning experience – it was a powerful reminder of the importance of community, empathy, and innovation in creating opportunities for all young people, regardless of location or ability.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all facilitators, partners, and participants for their energy, openness, and collaboration. We are excited to carry this momentum forward and continue working toward a more inclusive digital future.

Together, we mentor. Together, we empower.
