Advancing Industrial Climate Action: CLIMPS Study Visit to Türkiye

As part of Work Package 4 – Twinning Tool, the CLIMPS project held a successful three-day study visit to Türkiye, focusing on strengthening international cooperation in climate change adaptation within industrial manufacturing platforms.

The visit provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and good practices on how industrial zones can transition toward greener, more sustainable operations. It supported the development of a shared model for a “2030 Climate Change Action Plan” targeting large-scale industrial areas such as Organized Industrial Zones, Free Zones, and Industrial Clusters.

Key Visits and Sessions Included:

  • Governorship of Kocaeli – discussions on climate-focused public coordination and EU project integration
  • TÜPRAŞ Oil Refinery – showcasing sustainable energy transformation strategies
  • Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality – presenting climate-related initiatives at the local governance level
  • Kocaeli Chamber of Commerce – exploring support for green business and international collaboration
  • Kocaeli University – integrating sustainability into academic research and technological innovation
  • MEXT Technology Center (Istanbul) – applying digitalisation and AI for green manufacturing
  • Turkish Chemical Manufacturers Association – sectoral policies on environmental responsibility and circular economy
  • Sar Cam – examples of sustainable practices in the glass manufacturing sector
  • GEBKIM Organized Industrial Zone – Türkiye’s leading example of a green chemical industry cluster

Throughout the visit, participants discussed opportunities for cooperation, explored pilot initiatives, and identified ways to align industrial strategies with national and European climate objectives. The visit also encouraged dialogue between public institutions, private companies, and sectoral associations on green innovation and responsible production.

The CLIMPS project continues to promote practical, scalable approaches to climate action in industrial sectors, with this visit marking a significant step toward stronger cross-border collaboration and knowledge transfer.
